Australia’s social and community housing could host as much as 1.8 Gigawatts (GW) of rooftop solar, allowing some of Australia’s most vulnerable energy consumers to benefit from the low cost of solar. This is enough to:
• provide more than 2,000 skilled jobs for 5 years
• save 440,000 households an average of $750 every year for 20 years
• deliver bill savings of $328m per year for 20 years, for an initial investment cost of only $360 million a year for five years
• generate 2.4 Terrawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity each year
• offset 34 Megatonnes of greenhouse gas emissions over its 20-year lifetime
